Some Gifts Keep On Giving!

After reading someone's profile, I wanted to comment a few things. My husband travels all over the world and on a recent trip to the Philippines, heemailed me and was telling me about the people there. He said that theydidn't know how poor they were, They never missed what they had neverknown. They were willing to give you everything they had, even thoughthere was nothing to give. But then, THEY GAVE SO MUCH. He paid for one of the native girls to go to nursing school. She will in return, educate and take care of herfamily. And then, they will help someone else.Wealth without health is nothing. I truly believe this. You can have everything materialistic the world has to offer, but without self love and your own well being, ALLbecomes NOTHING. We are so fortunate to be able to help others to help themselves. There's an old adage "you can give a man a fish and feed him for a day, or youcould teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime." What we give ofourselves to others, determines what we give TO ourselves. A gift isnot a gift until it is received by someone. We all benefit from the gifts wegive.Sometimes it is good to know that someone really notices WHAT YOU DO..........and like mydaddy always said: "Always be sure that when everything is said and done, more is DONE than said."Always smiling! How do you handle the storms in your life?

Sorry I haven't been here in awhile. First we had Hurricane Gustav and then came Ike. Ike was packing a hard punch for Texas. Since I am in Texas, I can tell you ... it hasn't been fun.
Ever just wanted to leap forward past a point that was stressful and painful? Well, that is exactly how I feel.
I am so ready for some normalcy to return to my life. I know times like these make people stronger, but it is sad people have to be brought down to their knees before they realize how important LIFE really is. And how much we all need each other.
The choices we make today shape our tomorrows. Choosing the wrong way can lead to destruction causing storms in our lives. Metaphorically speaking, everyone faces storms....some face them better than others. However, the truth is people create many storms in their lives. Storms of their own creating create storms for others.
Without sounding too preachy, I would want to leave on this note....storms cannot always be prevented, but they certainly can be overcome.
How are you handling the storms in your life? It is okay to weather the storms while leaning on someone and  holding an anchor. The brighter days are there....it is all in how you see the wind blowing the clouds away.  And as I breathe my sigh of relief after Hurricane Ike, I can see the clouds begin to scatter, and I am so ready for a sunny day.
Hugs 2 u!

This is so true Teri! I know 1sthand how much in poverty the Philippines is, and at the risk of sounding biased because I am of Filipino descent. they/we are one of the most hospitable people I know. Simplicity is the way of life and everytime I visit I am always humbled as it truly puts life in perspective. Thank you always for sharing...can't wait to see pictures of your little girl!
Be Blessed & Bless Others,
