Good Karma can't be bought....
"Good karma cannot be bought." Current mood: blessed

©2008In a manuscript of mine, I wrote: EXPERIENCE TEACHES WHATWATCHING WILL NOT. I
know that I am as far in left field as one can get! I don't mind being
the first one out on the limb...............Marlilyn Monroe said once
that "Well-behaved women seldom make history."Not that I am in any
means trying to be historic, but the quote can mean that it's easy to
be conservative in your approach, but risky to do something
differently, liberally speaking. Pun intended.Having the courage to follow your heart and your own intuition is sometimes a hard road to go down. Most of the time, a person doing this will be a loner. However, that is perfectly all right too. Kids
want to be taught. They want to learn. My students tell me all the time
that they can't wait to get to my class. That is not just me tooting my
own horn, cause I am NOT perfect or Wonder Woman in my teaching
approaches. What I am is willing to scale the walls if that's what it
takes to help someone 'get it.' The willingness to admit that I do
not know everything gains more ground than a 'holier than thou
approach to subjects.' I learn as much from my students as they do from
me. When I had the flu, I missed a week of work, and had a
gazillion text messages checking on me, asking when I was coming back,
telling me they missed me.... and they made cards, taped them to the
board for me so I could see that when I came back. Those little moments
mean so much when someone does something when they didn't HAVE to do
anything. Many ways kids can be influenced and motivated is
done with pure gut instincts. Then, if it works, one can use it again,
but if it doesn't ....another approach can be tried. Furthermore,
Einstein could have been talking about education when he said,
"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting
different results." That is not the kind of 'crazy' I want to be known
for. The way the kids respond is how they PAY IT FORWARD in
their own lives: at home, in the halls, in the real world, with their
families and friends. When a teacher has kids come to them, like
I do, at the end of class and the kid says, "Thank you, so much for
teaching us this today;" God, there is no feeling like that! And it is THOSE TIMES and THOSE DAYS that make all the other cloudy days.....dissipate. We
are all teachers in the ways that we demonstrate our support and
delegate our positions in life. We can choose to move as others are so
willing to follow, or we can choose to go that less crowded route. It
all comes down to choice. There's another quote by Albert
Einstein I taught yesterday. It reads, "Any intelligent fool can make
things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of
genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the OPPOSITE direction." So,
here's to all the people willing to stay true to themselves. In the
end, one must look in the mirror to find the person one can depend on
the most. I love what I do because it loves me back. The
effort I make in making a difference will continue long after the
English book is closed and forgotten.Do something good for
someone you don't know, not because you 'have' to, but because you
want nothing in return. Such kindnesses, go much further than we may
realize.Hugs 2 U,Teri
