Each One, Teach One

I remember one of my favorite teachers.

Mr. Maslyer, 7th grade. There were many reasons why I enjoyed being his student. But one memory that truly stands out was when he randomly burst out into song, during class. He started with, "just what makes that little ol'ant. thinks he'll move that rubber tree plant. everyone knows an ant, can't. move a rubber tree plant. but he's got..HIGH HOPES." Til this very day, I know that song.. word for word. And sometimes catch myself humming the tune or even randomly bursting in song when I hear key words like "ant" "hopes" or even "can't".

It sounds crazy I know, but that memory still is clear in my head. As if it were just yesterday. When in fact, it was over 2 decades ago.

Although I'm not physically in a classroom. I am a teacher. As a coach. As a personal trainer. And everyday I get to be a part of people's health/fitness journey. I treat each session we're together as if it were our last.. I don't want my clients/participants to rely so heavily on me and become co-dependent. It's not about training in the gym, it's training FOR LIFE. I can only hope that as I help others achieve their goals, that they will also share their motivation and their inspiration with others.

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” (thank you QBert for sharing this quote)

And just in case some of you wondered about the song Mr. Maslyer taught us. Here is it, "High Hopes" sang by Mr. Blue Eyes himself, Mr. Frank Sinatra:
