Biography

I was born on October 19, 1976 in Subic Bay, Philippines. Daughter to Victor and Leonie Reyes and little sister to brother, Levi. Upon moving to California in 1977, we made our first home in Treasure Island. Although raised in the states, growing up with my both my lolas (grandmothers) living with us, I was raised to speak and understand Tagalog. Family and religion placed high importance in the Filipino culture. My mom and dad worked hard to make ends meet, while working as much overtime and odd jobs on the side to send both my brother and me to a private school. At an early age, I learned the value of hard work and being "frugal".
Growing up with an older brother, I was a total tomboy tagging along and adopting whatever hobby my brother was into. Whether I hungout on the sidelines as he and his friends had breakdancing battles or was a total "poser" pretending to be a betty (female skateboarder) while I couldn't even pop an ollie. I was always one of the guys and was never much of a girly girl, although till this day I still collect barbies - Filipina barbies. :)
Believe it or not, I was very shy growing up. Lacked alot of confidence, so I was very soft spoken and only spoke when spoken too. Although I played sports in elementary and junior high, I didn't play sports in high school as I feared I wouldn't be good enough to make the cut during tryouts. Fast forward to years later and in 2002 I decided to run my very 1st marathon in Honolulu. Crossing that finish line was the "aha" moment that would change my life forever. It took me 7 hours, 19 minutes and 22 seconds to complete the 26.2 miles and what was meant to be a once in a lifetime experience, now became a newfound love and "addiction". A newly discovered sense of self-confidence emerged and evolved to me becoming a volunteer coach for Girls on the Run (www.girlsontherun.org) and training to compete in my 1st figure competition the summer of 2003.
Every single event in my life, has lead me here, right now. At the end of the day, I'm just a regular girl, nothing extraordinary. Just a simple girl, from a humble background just wanting to be her best and make a positive difference in other people's lives. There are many things I am involved with and not just limited to competing in figure, running distance races or a volunteer coach. I am a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister and friend and want to share my love and passion for a healthier lifestyle both body and mind with whomever wants to learn.
